Description

Learn to create Origami

Join artist Jeff Morrical for a course in the wide and wonderful world of paper folding. More than paper airplanes and folded cranes, the world of folded paper and origami incorporates an enormous amount of variety and artistic approaches. This four-class course will introduce you to skills and techniques that you can build upon to create folded paper ideas of your own.

Origami allows you to develop fine motor skills and mental concentration. It also helps you to improve hand-eye coordination, sequencing skills, math reasoning, spatial skills, memory, but also patience and attention skills.

Classes are available for Caltech staff, professorial faculty and postdocs.

Class 1: The Miura Pattern - Learn the Miura fold and how its variations inspire the work of Jeff Morrical
Class 2: Modular Origami - Learn a simple fold pattern that can be repeated and combined to make an array of 3D shapes
Class 3: The Origami Bird Base - How to fold a traditional Japanese crane and beyond
Class 4: Now What? - Unlock your own creative ideas with the skills that you have learned
